may 24, 2007 luggage store gallery gilbert guerrero Filmmakers Gilbert Guerrero and Kathleen Quillian collaborated with George Chen (Vholtz, Chen Santa Maria) on electronics. epic[abridged] (Ben Furstenberg, Charles Kremenak, Christian Bruno and Steve Dye et alia) demonstrated the eclectic art of live accompaniment in cinema. This show hosted a few from the Bay Area's large and unique community of artists who hold vascillating identities as filmmakers and musicians. Gilbert and Kathleen combined a slow ascent into a video stratosphere with hand-manipulated 35mm slide projection from a gestalt vocabulary of images, many times only just barely revealing the image in what could be described in music as quotation. epic[abridged] recasted the gallery space as a dream-like extension of The Conversation, from the cut of their clothes to the sweep of their sonic pilfering from Walter Murch. They abridged the film into a 25-minute spectacle, complete with Steve Dye as Harry Caul leaving the performance table to stake out the denizens of 6th & Market from the slivered opening of the gallery drapes. coming soon images audio video |
