Exactly what is happening at the May 31 Corridor? On May 31, a dozen or more artists will set up projectors in Gansevoort Plaza to project original, experimental film and video onto plaza surfaces and selected facades. The projections will be accompanied by a live radio broadcast, hosted by Neighborhood Public Radio. Residents are encouraged to join the broadcast as listeners to the webstream and as broadcasters using on the Portable Radio Instrument in the Plaza. Corridors start at civil twilight, which is shortly after sundown or "dark o'clock." On May 31, the Corridor begins at 8:53p and ends at 10pm. Nope. Corridors are free and open to the public. We also accept donations to support our work. No. The Corridor will use the pedestrian plaza only. Are Corridors wheel-chair accessible? Yes. Visitors using wheelchairs and other mobility assistance are alerted to watch for cable ramps throughout the Corridor, and uneven cobblestone surfaces in Gansevoort Plaza. If visitors need additional assistance to attend, please contact the Project Coordinator to arrange access. Should I bring my lawn chair and blanket to a Corridor? You may. However we have found that the ability to wander a Corridor, much like wandering a gallery, is a way of discovering the full range of performance. Will there be food or drink to purchase at the Corridor? No. No vending is allowed at Corridors. Visitors should bring their own consumables and use the appropriate recycling and refuse containers for any waste. It's raining. Will the Corridor still happen? Yep. Corridors are held rain or shine. Please prepare for inclement weather, follow safety instructions to protect against electric shock, and enjoy a unique experience of projected light refracted through wet atmosphere. When will a specific performance actually start? Check the printed program upon arrival to a Corridor for specific start times for performances. The schedule in the printed program, as you may have guessed, is subject to change at any time. Many musical performances in the Corridor use low-power fm transmission in lieu of neighborhood-agitating loudspeaker systems. A pair of headphones is also advised. Who's in charge of the Corridor? Prior to a Corridor, email Suki O'Kane, Project Coordinator. During a Corridor, any tech crew member can answer your questions and address your concerns. They are easily identified by their uniform of white lab coat, a clipboard, and a headlamp. That is, until everyone at a Corridor begins to wear white lab coats and headlamps while carrying a clipboard. We welcome that problem. You may also ask Corridor artists, and they will guide you to a tech crew member. Please contact the Project Coordinator to make sure access to your residence or business is unobstructed. How do I sign up for/ unsubscribe from Corridor announcements? How do I get my film-music project included in a Corridor? The Corridor is always seeking new artistic collaborations and opportunities to showcase intermedia work. Please contact the Project Coordinator to discuss your project. How do I volunteer in a Corridor? The Corridor is an all-volunteer project organized by filmmakers and musicians wearing several hats: curatorial, outreach and marketing, fund development, permitting and logistics, and technical production. We encourage volunteers to join our roughly twice-yearly production efforts to make a glad gift of their expertise, or to acquire new skills. Please contact the Project Coordinator to discuss your interests. |
